BANKS FEE DANIEL
MAY 1987 - MAY 2007
If you’re reading this, it’s my guess that you are considering, thanks to the wonders of modern science, using his frozen semen on your much loved mare. I decided that you maybe would like to know something about him, who he was and what sort of a person he was, I have been so very privileged to have owned some of the best horses that were ever born and he was right up there at the top of the list. He came to Pages Farm in 1987 on his mother who had come to visit Snowford Stoker, Caroline Amphlitt had bred him and I had bought him before she left for home. He was weaned when his mother went home and turned away in the spring. As a yearling he was a little on the plain side to say the least and then he started to blossom. I took him forward at three and he passed his I.D.H.S.inspection, at four he was entered and passed his N.A.S.T.A 100 day performance test with Elite status.
He was a huge character but a very kind soul who loved any kind of attention, and would stand and dose while he was having his mane and tail pulled, any kind of attention would do, the more things you did with him the more he loved it. I would pull his whiskers out with my teeth and he would smack his lips at me. If you walked past his stable without talking to him he would kick the door and then stick his tongue out for you to take hold of and blow raspberries on it. He was a joker. Nothing was ever a problem for him if you asked him nicely, and if he felt it wasn’t beyond his capabilities he would oblige.
He live covered lots and lots of mares from 1991 until we all went to the USA. He won the Roma stud fertility award 7 times, we had a great vet and a great system but we couldn’t have done it without him !!! His stock speak for themselves.
He took the move to the USA in 2001 in his stride, as he did most things, he walked on to the aircraft and off again the other end without issue and the same going home three years later 2004, from that point on he was semi retired just covering a few mares each year.
I have to say in those last few years he was pretty much a rather large pet, who at twenty years old hadn’t really grown up and still liked a game of trying to stop you picking up the poop by turning the wheelbarrow over and biting the shovel! He still loved human company and when you called him he came at a gallop. In the twenty years that I had owned him he hadn’t change much, he was still the young at heart enthusiastic Daniel we all knew and loved until the fateful day I brought him out to cover a Cleveland Bay maiden mare owned by her Majesty the Queen, who in spite of being well in season kicked him and broke his tibia.
I could wax lyrical about him forever but time is running short, I’m sorry you didn’t get to meet him I’m sure you would have loved him.
